The M7 is so nice to use, and the aperture priority and metering is a gem. But what’s the guarantee that you’ll be able to find parts for an M3 or M6 Classic in 30 years but not an M7? Then the rate of repair comes back into play. That’s not to say the point about mechanical vs electronic isn’t valid. I’d be interested to know out of the number of M7’s sold, what the current repair rate is (in Wetzlar) and if that is out of sync with other models. The thing is, if your car or camera is working just fine you won’t be here asking for help or complaining about it, and that skews perception of the average failure rates. It was the same in the Porsche community - “don’t buy a 996 or 997, they grenade, can’t get parts, etc etc”. Honestly, like any internet community, the rate of reporting on failures is disproportionately higher here than in reality.
